It's a story of outnumbered crusaders trying hold the city of Acre in desperate and unpredictable ways.The story is well written, as JK Swift is a craftman of fantasy tales. I didn't find this book as interesting as others by the same author, but stiil good. The era and setting seemed to limit the plot (just my opinion). Still a very good and exciting presentation of good vs. Evil.

Very good read. Lots of characters. Hero is likable. Waiting for the second book to come out later this year. Spin off series is also entertaining.
I've read a few of J. K. Swift's books and enjoyed them. This I believe is his best. Looking forward to the next one.
Great characters and a strong story make this a wonderful first book in a series. As soon as I finish this review I'm buying the next book.
I really enjoyed this story. Many characters that came together in a good ending. Looking forward to the next volume. I read on my long commute into New York City and this is one of the few books that I have downloaded lately that have made the trip each way something to look forward to.
This is an excellent book , well written with a realistic story line. I would recommend this book / writer to anyone interested in the knights of St.John, the Hospitalers, the crusades and in the end he history of Malta.
Acre fell a little short of his first series, The Forest Knights, which may have been my favorite historic fiction that I have read this year. In Acre, the characters seem more flat and the plot in concept is great, but it drags a bit. After having read the Forest Knights series, I was interested more in the development of the Schwyzers versus newly introduced characters, or character eluded to in the first series. Still, it is a good read and I look forward to the next one.
This book has all the elements of a good series kickoff. Would love a bit more internal story on the characters, but the action moves right along.
